Missing functions?

Greetings,

I was finally able to get Coccinella0.96.8 working on my system. But there are a few key issues I am having. I am running my own jabber service using Openfire3.5.1 on PCLinux 07.

1- Where are the "admin functions"? Theres no kick, ban, set role, change topic...nothing 0.o

...or if it IS there. How do I access it.

2- I see a "Configure" button up when Im in a chatroom(MUC). But everytime I press it I get:
image "" doesn't exist
image "" doesn't exist
while executing
"ttk::label $w.frall.head -style Headlabel -text [mc {Configure Chatroom}] -compound left -image [list $im background $imd]"
(procedure "::MUC::BuildInfo" line 41)
invoked from within
"::MUC::BuildInfo $chatstate(roomjid)"
(procedure "::GroupChat::Info" line 7)
invoked from within
"::GroupChat::Info ::GroupChat::dlg2"
("uplevel" body line 1)
invoked from within
"uplevel #0 $locals($name,-command)"
(procedure "::ttoolbar::Invoke" line 5)
invoked from within
"::ttoolbar::Invoke .jgc2.frall.top.tray info"
invoked from within
".jgc2.frall.top.tray.f.i4 invoke "
invoked from within
".jgc2.frall.top.tray.f.i4 instate {pressed !disabled} { .jgc2.frall.top.tray.f.i4 state !pressed; .jgc2.frall.top.tray.f.i4 invoke } "
(command bound to event)
...any ideas whats causing this?

3- Sometimes while Im chatting in the MUC, my words will disappear. Its as if Im showing there in the room(so its not a disconnection*). Everyone can still see any messages I send over after the issue takes place. Its just that "I" cant see them. The issue does'nt really have a set pattern as to when it happens.

Forum:

1 + 2: It's under the Configure button which is broken. I already reported it here: Bug #225582: Error when configuring a chatroom. Expect a fix one of the next days.

3: Do you have debug output? I've never seen that issue. (Info-->Debug and/or Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+D)

I'll be looking forward to that fix.

As for the disappearing words issue. No, have not ran any debugging stuff. Im a bit curious if the issue might be an issue with JAVA than with Coccinella. Reason I say this is because Spark, the client made for Openfire will occassionally do the same thing. But when it does it. Its far more severe and will crash the entire application. A post on this was already tossed at the Openfire gang regarding it.

Also, for my setup. What additional things would I be needing to get voice going. Does'nt need to be VoIP. Just a simple p2p voice session. Also what would I need to get mp3's & movie files to stream on the whiteboard? Speaking of the whiteboard. Theres a few things I am curious about regarding it...

Im not sure I ever mentioned these things before.

1- Im a graphic artist myself. And I was never a fan of illustrator/vectorish type applications. Mainly due to the fact that I hate having my lines/strokes constantly rescaled, resized & reshaped automatically. Is'nt there a way to get rid of that?

2- Is there any plans to make a setting that lets the user adjust the size of the brush? While on that subject. Any way to set transparency?

3- The eraser wipes out whole lines rather than a distinct spot. Whats with that?

Overall, I really would'nt mind seeing a bit more of a "paintchat" like approach with the Coccinella whiteboard as most of the guys I'll be hosting would be sold on that. Heh, I'd even pay for that level of functionality if you guys do custom jobs.^^

Keep us informed! :-)

A microphone, one or more speakers, a sound card, and Coccinella at both sides (or a compatible client but I don't know any others who use IAX as transport method). If it is working you can see a telephone icon next to the contact which is using Coccinella, and in the Chat window, the telephone icon will be enabled.

QuickTime, this only works on Windows and Mac OS X.

Whiteboard stuff:
Brush thickness: right click on the brush icon and select the prefered thickness, right click on a line and change its thickness, or right click on a line and select Edit Item... to enter *any* value for the thickness. There are several ways and I agree usability is not optimal, but once you know how to do it, it's probably ok?

Vector based versus bitmap: I guess Coccinella uses vector based editing because this consumes less bandwith than pixel based editing. Adding support for pixel based editing will be hard and will take some time. I suggest you to contact Mats for more details about this.

Eraser whipes all stuff: this is because of the vectors. The eraser is much more like a delete tool to delete elements than a real eraser, maybe the icon and/or name of this tool should be changed for usability?

Transparency: this is not yet supported (but will be easier to add than bitmap based editing).

IAX? Is that something I need to be running server-side? Or its actually embedded in Coccinella itself. Also, what about SIP or Jingle? Would those work or are they even the same thing?

Sorry. I know its alot of questions^^. But Im trying to get a decent grasp of how this stuff works.

I found the brush & pencil settings. Thanks! Its kinda a slight bummer that mp3 & vid wont work with Linux. Man, that OS never gets any love, eh? It'd be nice if I could find a developer tackling some sort of media streaming plugin for openfire thats truly cross-platform^^. Oh well, is there a timeline on the Configure button fix? So far the hanging issue has'nt happened again. And still, theres no answer from the Spark guys.

But, if that configure issue can be ressolved in like a week or so, I'll gradly just use nothing but Coccinella for my service!^^

Also, how do I go about contacting "Mats"?

Thanks

Edited:
BTW, I been thinking. Anyone know or can guess the reason as to WHY basic vid or music playback cant be a reality for Linux Coccinella users? Or is there anyone making an attempt to change this?

No, you don't need anything at the server. It is possible to re-enable the disabled server support in Coccinella so that you can connect with an Asterisk server, but normally it is only P2P. Coccinella uses the iaxclient library for this. It's no SIP, it's Jingle. More details here.

No idea, sometimes Mats is very fast (fix within hours), sometimes he's a bit slower.

The reason is that QuickTime does not exist for Linux and that Coccinella depends on this for video playback in the whiteboard.

Ok, heres the thread regarding my issue if anyone is curious about it:

You have that 1 developer who's strongly agreeing that it might actually indeed be that my JAVA is jacked up=\

But if thats the case, why is there a large collection of quicktime libraries & codecs in most distros repisitories? On top of that, I can play quicktime files.

So far Coccinella hung on me again. But a quick restart resolved it. BTW: thanks for Mats addy. I'll be asking him about the bug with room controls.

Yes, but I guess they don't have the same API and the same features as QuitckTime.

Alright,

By any chance would this be the reason why theres no warning sounds for the Linux version like for the win & Mac counterparts? Also, I know this is nit-picky but is there a way to make my online statuses STAY where I need them to? I seem to notice that when I set myself AWAY so I can work in peace, the status will reflect this as it normally should. But the moment I touch the mouse or keyboard my AWAY drops and Im getting rushed with IM's!^^;

Is'nt there ANYWAY to make the status that you choose not change due to mouse or keyboard movement? Most other IM's I tried had this. Im hoping it's in Coccinella too.

There are sounds on Linux, maybe there is a bug somewhere?

You will have to disable the auto away features in the preferences if you want this (or increase the time value to something that suits you better). But you better set your presence state to busy if you are still on your computer (eventually with a status message for your contacts that they may not bother you). The auto away feature is designed so that you can manually set your presence to away or extended away if you are going away from your computer. This feature is only for when you forget to do this, so it will also change your presence if you forgot to do this. When you come back after the time interval, your presence will be restored to online (it should be restored to busy too, see this bug: Auto Away should change busy state and restore it) In this way you never have to change back your presence to available when you come back to your computer after being away. We actually think this is a feature as changing back your presence to available is also something that people sometimes forget (at least we did). So the mantra is to define the presence state as accurately as possible (available when you are available, offline when you are offline, busy when you are busy, away when you are away, extended away when you are extended away).

PS: You may also want to take a look at the "Do Not Disturb when (active chat sessions)" option. It automatically changes your presence to busy (and optionally add a message) when it detects you are busy chatting with multiple contacts.

This bug is fixed in cvs, it will be fixed in next breakfast build (less than 24 hours).

Im gonna try this now! Mats even replied to my email! So, Im good to go!

Thank you!

...and STILL, I cannot get the MUC configuration to pop up without that error.

Are you sure you downloaded the breakfast version?: https://thecoccinella.org/breakfast/ (the fix works here)
